The following pictures and drawings will help you determine how your septic tank lids are configured. 

The Septic Tank is generaly located approximately 5 ft off the house in line with the lowest bathroom or Kitchen

1960'S & Previous
(will have 1 main lid and 2 small baffle lids on both ends of tank)




This is what you are looking for on a single compartment Septic Tank (plus 2 small baffle lids, one on each end of the Septic Tank)




1975 - 1980 to Present
(This tank can have 2 main 24" lids or 2 main lids and 2 small Baffle lids at both ends of tank directly above the inlet and outlet baffle)

 






You will be looking for 2 lids like these if there are risers on the tank, if the tank is not risered, you will find 2 concrete lids like
the picture above ~ Riser lids can be below the surface which will require locating and digging the riser lid as well ~





1990 to Present

(installed with a Pressure Distribution System - This tank will have only one main lid in the center of the tank)
